Supporting the partner

Sometimes people ask me: “Does the Doula replace the Father or Partner?”

Absolutely not. Doulas do not replace the father/partner in any way. As your Doula, I will take a very quiet role in doing support, encouraging the couple to work together. I believe strongly that the partner plays a vital role in this sacred period as well, so they should remain close together throughout. I will also be there to guide the partners so that they can help the birthing mothers into different laboring positions and provide effective comfort measures.

It is often forgotten that the father/partner is going through this labor too, while not physically, but emotionally. Also, most have a difficult time watching their partners go through the intense moments of birth. Doulas can take that pressure off and provide reassurance by allowing them to do what they do best, love their birthing partner and just be present during the birth of their child.
